The island has been existed about hundred of million years ago and surrounded by the sea then there are endemic plants, according to researchers.

The name of Soi Sim derived from the ancient story that there were a lot of tomentose rose myrtle alive at the island then the local people called it Soi Sim.

Bo Hon Island

When speaking of the beautiful islands of Ha Long Bay, one cannot forget Bo Hon (Soap-Berry Tree) Island, not only because of its splendid scenery, but also because it is one of the largest islands in the area. Bo Hon Island is most famous for the grotto system which hides inside it, as there are many grottoes located here, such as the Surprise, Luồn, Virgin and Male grottoes. There is also a concentration of tall mountains with vertical cliffs that appear like citadel walls and are reflected in beautiful color on the sea.

One can also see many species of plants on Bo Hon Island (benjamin fig trees, cycads and orchids), and animals such as monkeys, deer and chamois.

Titop Island

Ti Top Island is located about 14 kilometers from Bai Chay to the East of Halong Bay. It’s a beautiful stop of cruising on Halong Bay as well as a heaven of relaxation in Halong.

In French colonial period, Ti Top Island was called Cat Nang Island. In 1962, the island was named after Russian cosmonaut Gherman Stepanovich Titov, a hero of the former Soviet Union, to mark the historic visit of President Ho Chi Minh and G. Titov to Ti Top Island on November 22nd 1962.

Ti Top beach is in the shape of a crescent enclosing the island. It’s famous for scenic landscape with quiet atmosphere, white sand and cool water. From the top of the mountain on Ti Top Island, tourists can take a panoramic view to magnificent setting on Halong bay.

At present, the island has a lot species of animals, including many rare ones. Reu Island is fast changing into an interesting holiday resort.

Tuan Chau Island

Tuan Chau Island is the only earthen island of any size in Halong Bay. The fertile earth supports the island’s beautiful, natural treasures: pine trees, lakes, and a beautiful beach, and these are the reasons why President Ho Chi Minh chose Tuan Chau Island as a place to relax with other political leaders in 1959.

Tuan Chau Island’s name is a combination of ‘Linh Tuan’ (the patrolman) and ‘Tri Chau’ (district chief) because in feudal times, the royal army set up a guard station here to patrol and defend the borderlands. Prior to 1999, the island’s residents suffered from a very modest living standard. There was no power network and no clean water. Roads were only trails and there were no mechanical means of transportation. Tuan Chau was a very poor town where fishing with very rudimentary tools was the only means of earning a living.

Dau Be Island

Dau Be Island is 500 m west of Hang Trai Island, and 28 km from the Bai Chay Tourist Wharf, in an archipelago comprised of the Tra Le islands outside the southeast side of Halong Bay (seaport of Lan Ha Bay). It has an area of 22,863 sq. m, and its highest peak reaches 139 m. When speaking of the island, it is impossible not mention to Ba Ham Lake, a famous spot which people had known a long time ago.

Cong Do Island

On the south-east side of Ha Long Bay, about 25 km from Bai Chay Wharf, Cong Do is in Bai Tu Long Bay in the region which recognized as the World Heritage. It has an area of 23,363 sq. m, and its mountain reaches a peak of 172 m. The island features many lagoons, which are the residence of numerous species of sea-life, such as shrimp, crab, fish, squid and aquatic plants. On the south-west side of the island, there is a wide coral reef displaying a myriad of colors.

Coral reef ecosystem is more than 700 m long and 300 m wide. It is preserved almost undamaged. In the future, there are plans for the development of a zone for scuba-diving. On the south-east side of the island, vestiges of the ancient commercial port of Van Don were discovered. This confirms beliefs that Cong Do Island once held an important position in terms of foreign trade.
